Woman President Before a Minority President

Title:

Woman President Before a Minority President

Created on:

January 5, 2007

Ever since George Washington, we have had a white male at the helm in America. We have seen some minorities take a run at the Presidency, but none have come close to victory. A woman has not yet attempted the Political leap, but we could see one in the next election. So, who has a better chance of becoming the President of the United States, a woman or a minority?

It is only a matter of time until we have a woman or minority President. But, in looking at the recent success of women in politics I have to say that we will have a woman President before there is a minority President.

Registered Conservative Respond Ooh, that's a tough one. Since the Dem's will at least threaten Hillary, I guess we will have to say Woman, but let's see how things look after the next Pres election.

Registered Independent Respond I hope to see a woman becoming president in the next election.

Registered Independent Respond I think this will depend on the candidates more than on people's biases. However, my money is on a minority.

Registered Independent Respond My guess is we won't have either any time soon. You need someone who is a strong enough candidate to overcome people's prejudices. I can't think of any non-white, non-male candidates who fit that profile.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Kat:This one is tough, it can go either way., but I think a woman has a better chance. Half our nation is female and some will vote for the woman just because she is a woman. You will also have men that wont vote for her, but I think that will be far less.

Registered Independent Respond In response to teammate:I also think a woman would have a better shot, but I heard this morning that Al Sharpton is thinking of running again and now I think the women have even a better chance. Hopefully Al doesn't embarrass himself like he did in the last election.

Registered Liberal Respond Though there are numerous minorities out there who would serve as a better president than Bill's apparently frigid wife, I think a woman (Hillary or no) will be the first of the two to have a shot at it. I only pray, as a woman, that she proves to be a woman of substance rather than fluff.

Registered Independent Respond i really don't care if it is either i just would like someone to once again represent the people of our country protect our rights our borders and do it in a matter of intregrity and moral standard...I don't think we should label anyone by gender or their race it's who can get the job done...

Registered Independent Respond I don't think a woman candidate is a shoo-in. I think there are still a large number of women, especially older women, who think that the presidency is a man's job. (My mom and quite a few of her friends fall into this category.) I also think there are lots of women who won't vote by gender if they don't like the candidate. To win, a woman will need to pick up a lot of males votes.

Registered Independent Respond If we still haven't seen a minority or female president by 2050, a Hispanic candidate might have a good shot. Estimates are that about 25% of the U.S. will be Hispanic by then. The main problem would be how to make a strong coalition of people from so many different countries/backgrounds.

Registered Independent Respond A Hispanic or Latino president is an interesting idea. However I think the biggest problem would be addressing Caucasians' fears on how or if the candidate would change the culture/language/social fabric of the nation.

Registered Liberal Respond I don't think a Hispanic candidate would stand a chance for quite a while. While the number of hispanics is ever increasing, it's not a big enough number just yet to carry a majority, and people are up in arms already over illegals and the rights they are being given already. I don't think anything BUT the hispanic vote would go their way.

Registered Independent Respond I do not agree that the Hispanic Candidate have a fair chance right now, however after 50 to 60 years they can think about it.

Registered Independent Respond I think we will have a minority president before a woman. With all the popularity Obama has gained I believe we will have a minority well before a woman....I think if it comes down to it many people still believe that a man is better even if they dont say it out loud.

Registered Liberal Respond In response to mamavazquez: I think it's possible we could have a minority president before a woman president, but it will most likely be an african american. In either case it's likely to be a minority vs. a woman candidate at the get go.
