Name: Barack Obama DOB: February 28, 2007
I have high hopes for Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), and not just because he can give a good speech. As a civil rights lawyer who represented a working class urban district in the Illinois state legislature, Obama has all the trappings of a leader who could break conventions and be a serious voice for progressives on the national stage. Obama is supposed to a far left Liberal, but is he?
He is constantly described as just left of center or a centrist. A centrist who voted against Alito and Roberts, he is pro-abortion, against the death penalty, pro-gun control, votes to hike the minimum wage, against the Bush tax cuts, a global warming scaremonger and last but not least he wants socialist health care in this country. The American Conservative Union gave him a score of 8 out of 100 (0 being very Liberal and 100 being very Conservative) on Conservative issues.
So, is Obama a extreme left winged Liberal or a man pursuing the Presidency and moving to the center?

I think that Obama is a good guy and if he had run in 2004 he might have cinched the election. This year, I'm just not sure that's going to happen.

Anyone considering a run for the presidency has got to be able to shift more towards the center. It's the only way to gain enough votes to win the presidency in the first place.

In response to Tigriz:Barack is good at this because people view as being more of a centrist, but when it comes down to it his votes put as one of the most Liberals. It is all about perception.

Mayor
In response to sweetnothing:That may very well be true. The only thing that matters when it comes down to it though, is whether he'll convince the mainstream that he's middle of the road.

Obama is a politician. When the day comes that a common, middle-class man can successfully run, I'll believe that we are hearing true convictions.

In response to jo07:You talk about true convictions, he said he does not care if he loses. That sounds like someone I want to be President...........

They are all making deals as we speak. He is 100% liberal unless someone wants him to be conservative.

Obama may be too liberal to overcome the amount of moderate support Hillary will get. Maybe we can team them up and have the first woman and the first black in the White House!

America is long due for an African American President, but it's due for a female Commander in Chief as well. Barack may be a good candidate and an effective campaigner, but Clinton has the better credentials for now.

I ran across a Newsweek article that gave pros and cons for each canidate...Here's what they had to say:
PROS: Hotshot fund-raiser. Bests Clinton in matchups with top GOPers, boosting electability cred. New polls show him up 9 in S.C. May well get black support—20% of Dem primary voters.
CONS: Experience and race. After less than a term as senator, he'd be the least-seasoned president since Wilson. And Dems may worry that others aren't ready to elect a black POTUS.

Hmmmm. Anyone been following Obama's campaign in San Fran. I could swear that he's only said Hillary's name once, maybe twice. But it's definitely about courting the women voters...the event was dubbed California Women for Obama. That's kinda savvy.

I think it's great that Oprah has decided to actively campaign for him. I hope it gives him the bump he needs to beat out Hillary.

If Bush wouldn't have put us in Iraq, the lives of our soldiers wouldn't have been wasted. It was a waste to send them over there especially since he was wrong about who really caused 9/11. I think they would still be with us if he had gotten his facts straight. I am sure that's what Obama meant when he said that.

I think he's doing an excellent job of riding the center line. It's that ability that will most likely get him elected over Hillary. Whether he'll stick to those same beliefs once the election is over, that remains to be seen.

Obama is a charlatan. He is indeed an extreme left winged Liberal, which he masks very well with his nice guy routine. He has fooled many people; given his popularity. His ideology and voting record is no better than Hillary’s is. He is not qualified to be president (nor is Hillary); his experience that only of a first term senator. If Obama or Clinton is elected, prepare yourselves for higher taxes and put your savings in municipal bonds.
