Name: Barack Obama DOB: February 28, 2007
I have high hopes for Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), and not just because he can give a good speech. As a civil rights lawyer who represented a working class urban district in the Illinois state legislature, Obama has all the trappings of a leader who could break conventions and be a serious voice for progressives on the national stage. Obama is supposed to a far left Liberal, but is he?
He is constantly described as just left of center or a centrist. A centrist who voted against Alito and Roberts, he is pro-abortion, against the death penalty, pro-gun control, votes to hike the minimum wage, against the Bush tax cuts, a global warming scaremonger and last but not least he wants socialist health care in this country. The American Conservative Union gave him a score of 8 out of 100 (0 being very Liberal and 100 being very Conservative) on Conservative issues.
So, is Obama a extreme left winged Liberal or a man pursuing the Presidency and moving to the center?

In response to Bella:Well, and it helps that the media generally hangs to the left.

In response to Ajax:So, do you think people will see his true colors or only listen to what he says and see him as a middle of the road politician?

In response to Black Widow:
I don't even know if he has true colours... but he'll probably be portrayed as a moderate. Anybody with good spokespeople can appear to be anything they want.

In response to BigD:Working men can make a lot. But if you hired a legit contractor, that $300 wasn't pure profit. They have to pay to get licensed and registered; they've got to pay taxes, and they need to pay for insurance and workers comp. You need to factor in travel time as well. And, usually, they have to pay for paint and supplies too. All that eats into profits pretty quickly. I'd guess that averaged out over an 8 to 10 hour work day, the average is probably closer to $30 -$50 and hour.
That said, unless you have a ton of furniture, louvered doors, crown moldings, popcorn or vaulted ceilings, etc, it sounds like that price was on the high side. Typically if it's a standard room I'd guestimate about $2 per square foot or a $200 flat fee (whichever is higher) as an average price. But it's going to really depend on where you live, too. Did he at least do nice work?

In response to BigD:Sadly, I'm afraid you're right. I wish that our system wasn't set up that way. BTW, I like Obama better than Arnold...at least for now.

Dont say colors or you might be labeled as a racist. The president complimented for being articulate and look at the press he's taken.

In response to dasuit:I don't think Obama had a problem being called articulate. The problem was that he kind of implied that all of the black candidates before Obama were inarticulate. P.S. If you want to up the compliment, you'd call him eloquent

In response to Bella:I haven't been following real closely. Has anyone heard anything negative about Obama since the non-story about him going to a Muslim school broke?

In response to Peter:I am still a little worried about his Muslim background. Maybe I have just watched one too many episodes of "24". It is still early and many things can happen.

In response to Bella: I don't think that Obama had any problem at all with the comment. It's the race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson that made it an issue. It wouldn't matter if the president said that Obama was the greatest thing since MLK, he'd be critisized for saying that he wasn't the greatest black man ever.

In response to Thor:We haven't heard anything because I think it was not a big deal. They were just doing the usual probing of all Politicians looking for any dirt. Well...that is what the America people want.

In response to dasuit:You are exactly right. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will not support anyone that is not a true "black man". Even though they are as Liberal as they come, they are more for the "black" cause than Liberalism. It is sad that they cannot see past the race barriers.

i agree with big D our society is so hung up on looks i'm sure that alot of people select their candidates on that basis and ofcourse throw in the eloquent speaking and personality and bam we have a leader..i don;t know enough about him right now but we'll see as time goes on and they all show what they have to offer us...as far as the working man being helped we are all working men and women so i don't understand that statement from cass..whether from the dictionary or not , alot of people who don't work with their hands work very hard and need to be considered, if he takes care of the working man then to me that is all people who work our problem is that most of the time we take care of the people who don't want to work and let the govern ment take care of them...
