The US housing market has stabilized

Title:

The US housing market has stabilized

Created on:

December 11, 2007

Bucking conventional wisdom, the National Association of Realtors, a trade group for real estate agents said the battered housing market is on the verge of stabilizing and inched-up its outlook for 2007 and 2008 home sales.

Agree or Disagree?

Registered Independent Respond I just don't see this even with Bush's bailout. My guess, and it seems most other people's too, is one to two more years of inching downward.

Registered Independent Respond There are so many forclosures and preforclosures where I live, this can't even begin to be the case.

Registered Independent Respond Not a chance. I think the real estate business will get a lot uglier before this is all over. Does anyone remember California? This is going to be the same but on a national level.

Registered Independent Respond Not by a long shot! I think the biggesst drops are probably over throughout most of the country, but I still think housing prices and sales are going to continue to inch downwarrd.

Registered Independent Respond It appears I'm not alone: Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com, predicted that if the economy slips into recession or if efforts to prevent foreclosures don't pick up substantially, the housing market downturn could last through the end of the decade.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Kat:Jeez. That's depressing news for anyone nearing retirement and considering downsizing.

Registered Independent Respond I sure hope it's true. I'd like to be able to sell my home without taking a bath.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Kat:What a nightmare! I hope our next president has a better idea of what to do to re-engergize our economy.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Peter:I couldn't have said it better myself. Bush is the reason we are in the mess; the sooner he's out of the White House the better.

Registered Independent Respond If you believe that, I've got some swampland in Florida that's for sale. LOL.

Registered Independent Respond Don't know about that, forclosures are still edging up where I live. and all the agents are taking courses on short selling...not a good sign.

Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:Ditto on where I live...tho it seems a little late to be taking the course. LOL.

Registered Independent Respond It doesn't seem like that's what the people in the industry believe. The National Association of Home Builders said its housing market index, which gauges builders' perceptions of conditions and expectations for home sales over the next six months, came in at 19 in December. The number was at the lowest level since the index began in January 1985.

Registered Independent Respond More bad news: The Department of Commerce reported that housing construction fell in November and single-family activity dropped to the lowest level in more than 16 years. Still no sign of a turn around.

Registered Independent Respond Yep the downturn has left home building almosst 25% below last year's level. Not good. Not good, at all.
