Illegal immigration legislation is hurting our economy

Title:

Illegal immigration legislation is hurting our economy

A crackdown by U.S. states and municipalities on illegal immigration threatens the competitiveness of businesses across the US. One key example: Microsoft decided to move one of its units to Canada, after an effort to legalize an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants and create a temporary worker program sought by business groups failed in the U.S. Senate in June. Small businesses operating across several counties/cities point out its impossible to even keep track of all the new legislation.

Registered Independent Respond I think that the reason that this is such a mess is because the federal governement is just too chicken sh*t to step up to bat and put together well thought out national legislation that would put an end to this whole mess.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. I know the states all have good intentions; but they are creating nightmares for the businesses (even the ones who don't knowingly employ illegal aliens).

Registered Independent Respond It's so unfair that we expect businesses to spend so much time trying to weed out who is legal and who isn't. That's not really their aim.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:That's very true. Especially if it's a smaller business. These laws can't be too much of a burden or too inconsistent to follow, that's for sure.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Yeah. It would rather suck to lose your job because someone keyed in your info wrong and you coulcn't get it fixed in 90 days.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Yeah. I smell a lawsuit. Imagine losing your job because some pencilpusher screwed up your middle initial. I guarantee it is going to happen.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Yep. If you really want to wreck our country, let the Federal Government get involved in who can and can't work. Ever tried to clear up a credit problem? Bet it took more than 90 days -- and that's the private sector.

Registered Independent Respond capitalism is based on the huge gap between the rich and the poor.proof that the US wants a poor class in order to do dirtyjobs such as plumbers, janitors, ect is that whenever poverty rates decline, taxes are greatly raised, bringing poor people back to doing dirty jobs.
I conclude that america is far better off with illegal immigrants staying because poverty is lowered and it will be easier to find people with occupations that you need, like carpet cleaning, ect.,AND our country will be richer simply because the gap will be filled and greater taxes will be taken from the gap in contrast to the poor class

Registered Independent Respond This comment has been edited. Click to compare original post. The concept of America is wealth and prosperity, but this is not prevelant in farming regions of the country. I am biased to bigger business and city life, but I dont feel we need a government that doesnt want to open its borders to other countries. However, if we do allow for immigration, this actually increases jobs... programs like English is A Second Language were established in public school systems back in the 70's for exactly this reason. The jobs that are created are not just dirty jobs.... in Southern California many interpretors are used in the insurance business to allow for statements to be taken in different languages... this creates a professional job for people who are fluent in both English and another romantic language. These are not dirty jobs. And, teachers that can speak other languages are also utilized to help teach the immigrant children English so they can successfully function in America. Again, this is not a dirty job. But, the solution is that the government should control immigration to allow for professional job growth so immigration can be handled in a professional manner so the schools and business can support the growth. If we prepare for immigration, we can provide the appropriate programs which should be funded by our government so that all Americans whether native or new immigrants can successfully achieve the American Dream.
