Candy that looks like drugs should be banned

Title:

Candy that looks like drugs should be banned

Created on:

Hershey's new Ice Breakers Pacs are tiny, blue, dissolvable packets of white mint powder that look a whole lot like heat-sealed dime bags of cocaine. The company maintains that the pacs are branded with a list of ingredients. Cops say they are concerned that drug dealers will use the packaging to conceal drugs. Should Hersheys be required to pull the new candy from the market?

Agree or Disagree?

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Guess we need to outlaw Big League Chew, designed to look like chewing tobacco, and pixie sticks, another cocaine look alike.

Registered Independent Respond In response to southboca:I'm in favor of banning Big League Chew...chewing tobacco is a nasty habit. Pixie sticks are a harder call.

Registered Independent Respond In response to corinthians:I do now. Tiny packts of white powder that look like they could dissolve in your mouth. :)

Registered Independent Respond I just had a thought: Why should Hershey change their packaging? They’re the legitimate business; the authorities should be going after the dealers to change the way they package their drugs.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Cass:Ummmm. Because it's a lot easier for the government to make a legitimate business change than criminals?

Registered Independent Respond Nope. I had no idea what cocaine looked like until I saw a picture of the new candy. Guess I'm kind of taking them at their word that the two look the same.

Registered Independent Respond Hmmmm. They're even packaged in a plastic slide-top case similar to the magnetic key cases drug dealers use to hide drugs under cars.

Registered Independent Respond What's rather ironic is that company founder Milton Hershey devoted his fortune to saving children. Now his company has come up with a product that could potentially put children in harm's way.

Registered Independent Respond The candy does sound like it would have been really cool, if it hadn't resembled cocaine and heroin.

Registered Independent Respond In response to corinthians:I don't know what cocaine looks like when it's sold on the street either.

Registered Independent Respond When I search google for images of cocaine, I find nothing that looks even remotely like the Ice Pac. I think it's also a little fishy that none of the newspapers ran a side by side -- this is what Ice Pacs look like; this is what cocaine looks like. Makes me wonder if something's up.

Registered Independent Respond In response to corinthians:Wow! I did an image search too, but on yahoo...Everthing that came up was white powder in plastic baggies. The powder looked similar, but not the packaging.

Registered Independent Respond I did the same thing. Then I re-read the article. It seems that maybe cops are simply afraid that drug dealers could package their drugs to look like the candy? If so, that's a whole 'nother wad of wax. The company shouldn't have to change a thing.

Registered Independent Respond Honestly, if that's the case I think that they'd need to ban pixie sticks too. After all, you could package cocaine to look like them, too.

Registered Independent Respond In response to Peter:It sure doesn't sound like that. But I guess that could be true. I couldn't find any look alike pictures either.
